Once the spacers and hatch cover lips are epoxied in place, it is time to install the gasket material that will provide the watertight seal to the hatches. Pygmy provides strips of closed cell foam that are just wide enough to cover the exposed edges of the lips that the hatch covers sit on. My job today is to fit and trip the gasket material to the correct length, then coat both the underside of the gasket and the upper side of the lip with contact cement.
I used Weldwood Contact Cement. It is a product I have used many times and have a lot of confidence in. If you are not familiar with contact cement, it works like this. Coat the two pieces to be cemented together and let them dry. Once dry the two pieces will be easy to handle . They will stick tight on contact, which means that they need to be joined carefully. The video below shows this process.
