You Never Know What You'll See on the Indian River Lagoon

On a recent paddle on the Indian River Lagoon I was startled to see a man rising out of the water on a column of water.  Turns out he was "jet packing".  He was one of a group of young Australians playing with their new toy.  His jet pack was attached to the propulsion end of a SeaDoo.  The SeaDoo's water pump drove water under pressure up the thirty foot hose to the jet pack where it exited through two downward facing nozzles.  These could be manipulated to allow the jet pack wearer to fly and maneuver above and through the water.  It looked like a lot of fun.  Below is a video done by a Florida tourist advocacy group on this sport.
