Repairing Scratches in a Fiberglass Deck

DSCN4004

The boat was old, a Necky Elaho built in 2002.  It should have been beat up, and in fact it did have some ugly deck scratches from a confrontation with the underside of a powerboat swim platform.  But the hull was sound with only a few digs, fewer than on my Currituck.  A quick test paddle showed that the rudder system needed some repair also.  But the boat paddled and tracked well without the rudder and could be easily edge turned.  I decided to take a chance thinking I could remove many of the cosmetic deck scratches and easily repair the rudder system.  I bought the Elaho and brought it home.  This is the story of how I removed the scratches (the rudder repair is a story for another day).
