In February of 2011, my buddy Bruce and I camped on Indian River Spoil Island one. We were at the end of a several day paddling trip from Stuart, Florida to Melbourne. IR1 was our last, and arguably, loveliest camping spot on the trip. I returned to IR1 six weeks after Hurricane Matthew ravaged the area in October of 2016, and this is what I found.
